Jen's Book Jams,
Patty Wetterling must be the strongest and most courageous woman alive。 Reading the details of her heartbreaking journey into finding the truth just about gutted me。 At the time Jacob went missing just a few hours away from where I lived, the idea of someone from school or a friend disappearing like that was scary。 Now, as a mother with a son, I cannot fathom the pain Patty endured for nearly three decades。 I sobbed along with Patty and her family throughout the last several chapters。 I wish I c Patty Wetterling must be the strongest and most courageous woman alive。 Reading the details of her heartbreaking journey into finding the truth just about gutted me。 At the time Jacob went missing just a few hours away from where I lived, the idea of someone from school or a friend disappearing like that was scary。 Now, as a mother with a son, I cannot fathom the pain Patty endured for nearly three decades。 I sobbed along with Patty and her family throughout the last several chapters。 I wish I could hug each and every one of them。 I’ve turned on my porch light over the years on some of Jacob’s anniversaries and when he was found。 I promise to do better to live a life to honor the 11 traits that capture Jacob’s spirit。 。。。more
Sarah Grecula,
Patty Wetterling poured her love and pain into this book and it is both a sad and hopeful read。 I was 11 when Jacob was taken and he has been on my heart since then。 I now have a 10 year old son and relate to his mother’s perspective。 Patty’s work to protect children and establish sex offender registries is an important legacy that has helped protect so many children。
Michele Parker,
I’ve known and followed the story of Jacob Wetterling my entire life。 I was 7 years old in 1989 and lived 40 minutes away from where he was abducted。 The book didn’t really tell me anything I didn’t already know, but reading it from a mother’s perspective was devastating and heart-wrenching。
Rhonda Ruff,
So heartbreaking good
Kady,
Jacob's story has always hit me so hard even though I was three when it happened。 Now as a mother this memoir has destroyed me and made me admire Patty even more。 Hug your babies tight and keep Jacob's hope alive Jacob's story has always hit me so hard even though I was three when it happened。 Now as a mother this memoir has destroyed me and made me admire Patty even more。 Hug your babies tight and keep Jacob's hope alive 。。。more
Alice,
I would give this book a million stars if given the option。 If you are a parent I strongly encourage you to read this amazing, very well written book。 Patty gives you the details of what her family went through for 27 years。 The pain they endured, the hope of Jacob being found alive and the heartbreak of finding his remains。 How Danny got away with murder and never held accountable and how she became an advocate for children。 Reading Danny’s confession of what he did that night made me sick。 The I would give this book a million stars if given the option。 If you are a parent I strongly encourage you to read this amazing, very well written book。 Patty gives you the details of what her family went through for 27 years。 The pain they endured, the hope of Jacob being found alive and the heartbreak of finding his remains。 How Danny got away with murder and never held accountable and how she became an advocate for children。 Reading Danny’s confession of what he did that night made me sick。 Then the letter to Jacob at the end。 Oh, how heartbreaking。 。。。more
Donna ,
What a horrible story! I remember it from the time and have read about it over the years。 That said, the day after I got the book from the library, 20/20 aired a 2-hour show about the case, obviously intended to coincide with the book release。 That, of course, filled in a lot of the blanks for me。 I went ahead with the book。 Honestly it was much too much detail and I ended up skimming much of it。 For those more interested in how hideous her emotions were, I guess it would be good。 I was more int What a horrible story! Brenda,
I was just nine years old when Jacob was kidnapped from his small hometown of St。 Joseph, MN。 Like many Minnesotans, I followed the search for him and was gutted when his body was eventually found 27 years later。 In this new memoir, Patty Wetterling details the devastation of losing her son to the whim of a monster。 Through the years of searching for answers, Patty dedicated her life to making the world a safer place for all children and was instrumental in the passing of many laws that hold sex I was just nine years old when Jacob was kidnapped from his small hometown of St。 Joseph, MN。 Like many Minnesotans, I followed the search for him and was gutted when his body was eventually found 27 years later。 In this new memoir, Patty Wetterling details the devastation of losing her son to the whim of a monster。 Through the years of searching for answers, Patty dedicated her life to making the world a safer place for all children and was instrumental in the passing of many laws that hold sex offenders accountable。 Her story is one of grief and loss, but also of hope and encouragement 。 “Dear Jacob” invites readers to follow her journey through the years in search of answers and to continue to embrace #11JacobsHope。 A must read。 。。。more
Pam Herrmann,
This story always intrigued me。 I felt law enforcement failed this family。 I’ve been to the sight where Jacob was buried。 It gave me the chills knowing how awful this 11 year old spent his last moments。 “What did I do wrong?” I have great respect for his mother Patty and her never ending hope to bring her son home。 I wish it would have been a happier ending for the family and I will always leave the porch light on for Jacob。
Tammy,
These GoodReads ratings really fail to express my thoughts on this book。 "I really liked it" does not give this book the respect or gravitas it deserves。 I was 16 and living in a small town in Minnesota when the news came out that Jacob Wetterling was abducted。 His story became our story as the months turned into years, and then decades。 The book is quite detailed--Patty Wetterling gives us a back-stage pass into the decades-long struggle to bring Jacob home and we hear about not only the invest These GoodReads ratings really fail to express my thoughts on this book。 "I really liked it" does not give this book the respect or gravitas it deserves。 I was 16 and living in a small town in Minnesota when the news came out that Jacob Wetterling was abducted。 His story became our story as the months turned into years, and then decades。 The book is quite detailed--Patty Wetterling gives us a back-stage pass into the decades-long struggle to bring Jacob home and we hear about not only the investigations, but the family's struggles, the heartbreak of following lead after lead to nowhere, and Patty's advocacy work。 At one point I stopped reading and had to give myself permission to not continue when in the book we get Heinrich's confession。 This was a very emotional read。 Patty has shared such an intimate and devastating part of her life。 Nothing but respect for her。 。。。more
Maria Burnham,
Absolutely gripping。 I could not put this book down。 Jacob is just one year older than me, and as a lifetime resident of central MN, this story has been part of our narrative for as long as I can remember。 I thought the book was beautifully written and left me crying and without breath several times。 Well done, Patty and Joy。 Well done。
Nancy Boeckers,
This was an excellent book。 Very well written and heart wrenching。 I've seen the law enforcement side of these stories for so long it was amazing to read the personal family side。 Well done Patty and Joy!
